Windows in historic buildings

Windows in historic buildings image

Traditional windows are integral to the design of an historic building. According to Historic England. The loss of traditional historic wooden windows from older buildings poses a major threat to the UK’s heritage. They make a hugely important contribution to the value and significance of historic areas as well as being important artefacts in their own right.

Many homeowners have been persuaded that their old timber windows are rotten, draughty, and beyond economic repair. In fact, often a few minor repairs and a little upgrading keeps them fit-for-purpose and serviceable for many years.

We have very specific experience in working on the restoration of historic wooden windows (and doors) in historic buildings. Including such prestigious landmarks as The Houses of Parliament, The Ivy restaurant and many other buildings of note.

If you own an historic building and need some advice, we would be pleased to help. Our in-depth understanding of some of the complex issues associated with working on listed buildings allows us to provide useful, appropriate advice as well as carry out restoration and repairs in line with requirements.
