The owner of this elegant country residence wanted to install a gateway entrance befitting of the building’s unique style. We were recommended for the job by someone who had used our services and knew that we would be able to undertake this special bespoke joinery project.
The property, which is located in the North Somerset countryside, is reminiscent of a French chateau and the owner was keen to emulate this style in the new planned gated entrance.
Our team worked closely with both the owner and his architect to create this beautiful scalloped gateway, the inverted-arch specifically designed to provide privacy whilst at the same time allowing a tempting glimpse of the elegant building within.
The gates are huge – 3 metres wide – and therefore needed to be specially manufactured to fit. Oak was selected as the best wood for the gates for the timber properties and its natural beauty.
The wooden braces across the gates have birds- mouth joints for stability and we were able to subtly adapt the design to take account the unusually steep angle of the braces. The antique-black iron accessories; the rolled strap hinges for the top rails and adaption of the fittings, were all specifically created for these gates and contribute to the stunning appearance of the completed project.
The client chose to leave the oak to weather naturally so that the gated entrance would age and be in keeping with the historic appearance of the chateau-style building. This was a very successful project, our client is delighted by the end result.
